Well, that might have been a mistake! A few days ago, three Staples employees tweeted that the office supply chain would soon start carrying Apple products.
The first one came from Regis Mulot, Staples’ Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources who said, “After Canada, #Apple products are coming to #Staples in US. Great news!” The second tweet came from a Field Services Manager at Staples, Michael Goggin. His tweet read, “Staples just finalized a deal to begin selling Apple products #finally.” The final tweet said, “Thanks #Apple for letting #Staples sell you…oh, and for the delicious apple products to celebrate at… instagr.am/p/Vuezsgk6_t/” and came from Erin LaFlamme, who is a Strategic Accounts Coordinator for Staples. Let’s just hope the employees don’t get in trouble for their tweets! As you may know Apple sells most of their products at their Apple Stores, usually located in malls. However, in order to get more sales, they also have “Authorized Resellers.” These stores can be local computer stores, but they can also be large electronics chains such as Best Buy and Micro Center. Radio Shack even sells the iPhone. Now Staples wants to take on the role of selling Apple products! Staples has been selling PC’s and tablets like the Nook and Nexus 7, but they haven’t been able to sell Apple products until now.
I think that this will work out well on both ends, actually! Staples is one of the main places that the average person goes to purchase a computer, and if the salesman convinces them to buy a Mac, Apple will see more money flowing in. Staples on the other hand, will also make money off the deal. This deal is probably just one step forward in Apple’s efforts to take away the PC market.
